In 2018 a contraceptive microchip will be made available to women. The contraceptive microchip is designed to be used for sixteen years and comes with its very own remote control. This remote control can disable the microchip when the time comes that user wants to become pregnant. This film aims to make more tangible the realities of this development in contraceptive methods from the perspective of the user.
Research behind this short film was presented at the Conference on Designing Interactive Systems in June 2017. "Turned On/Turned Off" will be screened at Transitional States: Hormones at the Crossroads of Art and Science 2018.
