SARAH HOMEWOOD
I am a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Human Centred Computing at the University of Copenhagen. I have a background as a contemporary dancer that informs my research within human-computer interaction.
My research investigates how the design of self-tracking technologies both reflect and influence societal perspectives on bodies. I first study how existing self-tracking technologies are currently used, and then explore the consequences of offering alternative designs of self-tracking technologies, which propose new perspectives on the body. My research methods include qualitative research to understand current uses of self-tracking technologies, design research and prototyping, and finally user testing including long term deployments of my prototypes. My research domains include menstrual and fertility tracking and chronic illnesses such as post-COVID syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome. My current research interest is the design of pacing technologies that use existing wearable sensors to avoid over-exertion during chronic illnesses. I predominantly teach design processes and interaction design.
